What does a Nanny actually do?

A Nanny is a family employee who looks after the child(ren) during the family’s absence. Nannies provide a high standard of childcare, including feeding, changing nappies, collecting children from school/nursery, help related to after-school activities, and general care of the children’s welfare. Some Nannies are also required to drive in order to carry out some of their duties, such as dropping off/collecting children from school or after-school activities. The family is responsible for the petrol expenses.

What are the requirements for becoming a Nanny?

A Nanny is a Children’s Nurse specially trained in child-care. Amongst the most recognised ‘Nanny’ qualifications are the NNEB, BTEC courses in caring, City Guilds 365, NAMCW and NVQs. However, apart from Nannies with formal qualifications, A1 KidsCare UK also provide placements for Nannies without qualifications but who have worked in the child sector for a number of years and have great experience with children of all ages.

How much does a Nanny generally get paid?
Nannies’ wages vary according to a number of factors such as experience, qualifications, number of forking hours, and area of work. To simplify the selection criteria, we group our Nannies into three different categories: Nannies, Starter Nannies, and Mother’s Helps (please refer to table below). Any overtime is compensated for by extra payments or extra time-off.

Nannies working time & time off
Nannies are entitled to at least one full day off per week and one weekend free per month. However, most Nannies have every weekend free. They may also expect to have all statutory holidays, as well as a minimum of two weeks paid holiday.

Application process
Upon receipt of the Application Form, the details and requests of the applicant are thoroughly assessed and carefully matched with those of our families, with the aim of ensuring that the placement is pleasurable for both.

A preliminary meeting between the Nanny and family can also be arranged if required.

There is NO REGISTRATION FEE for Nannies – our service is completely free! We simply match you with a family who then pays you wages according to your category and living arrangements (see table above). And that's not all - at the end of your placement you will be awarded a NANNY CERTIFICATE.

Customer testimonials

What a wonderful service! I never thought that I would be able to work full-time, be a mum to 3

children, and still have enough time and energy to enjoy my hobbies and go out with my husband and friends.
Mrs Judith McGREGOR, Peterborough

Only 3 months after Elisabeth started looking after our children, they have grown so attached to her that now they see her as a member of family and just love spending time with her. She is exactly what we wanted. Thank you so much for recommending her to us.
Mrs Pamela RICHARDS, London

Mrs Amarjit Khan, West Midlands

I LOVE MY NANNY. SHES THE BEST!
Jordan SMITH, 6 years, Essex
